A team including two showjumpers, a vet, an ex-Army Officer and Rugby player and a former England hockey player is certainly not your average team for a 5-mile relay race. But this is a race with a difference. The eclectic team of ten runners from equine nutrition specialists Science Supplements, will all be competing (and potentially walking or shuffling!) half a mile each in the ‘10 for Tim’ initiative - a fundraiser to be held at 6pm, Saturday 27th July 2019, at the Longines Royal International Horse Show, Hickstead, in aid of The Tim Stockdale Foundation. The charity is a legacy to the showjumper, trainer and broadcaster Tim Stockdale who died last November, just one month after being diagnosed with stomach cancer.
The line-up of ‘athletes’ from Science Supplements is ably captained by Connie Dale, the company’s Nutrition Advisor who has recently completed the Edinburgh marathon and for whom the 0.5-mile distance will be a breeze! Connie’s co-runners include talented showjumpers Will and Ollie from the highly successful Fletcher dynasty, Veterinary Surgeon Louisa Taylor (who has promised to start training soon!), Sales Director Zelina Coffey, fellow Nutrition Advisor and committed racing fan (four legs not two) Ellie Holder, Head of Production Nathan Archer, Commercial Director Vicky Mitson, the newly appointed General Manager USA Ryan Mulligan and Group Director David Mitson (who is hoping his knees will hold out!).
Science Supplements is a major sponsor of Hickstead this season, having been named as the title sponsor of the All England Jumping Championships in September and sponsor of a number of iconic classes at Hickstead’s international fixtures. This includes the recent British Speed Derby and the upcoming hugely popular Queen Elizabeth II Cup at the Longines FEI Nations Cup of Great Britain, which takes place on the same Saturday as the ‘10 for Tim’ fundraiser. By taking part in the relay race, Science Supplements guarantees to raise a minimum of £2,500 (£250 per runner) which will go towards The Tim Stockdale Foundation. The foundation was established to benefit young people competing in the three sports Tim loved - cricket, equestrianism and golf – providing support to help them make their way either as an individual or assisting the youth competition structure. In addition, Science Supplements will also be donating ALL proceeds from sales at its stand at Hickstead to the charity.
Vicky Mitson, Commercial Director said, “Living only a few miles from Tim we regularly enjoyed the same Chinese restaurant and he always had time for a quick chat. We are happy to be able to support the foundation and the good causes it serves. I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank our long-standing supplier Tyler's Horse and Country Embroidery, who have kindly donated the smart Science Supplements customised team kit. At least we will look like professional runners regardless of our performance on the day!”
