What is it?
RespirAid is an innovative formulation that has undergone trials in horses with respiratory problems with results seen in as little as just 7 days meaning you can be confident that your horse is receiving only the best supplemental support.
A healthy respiratory system is vital for a healthy horse. RespirAid provides the essential ingredients to ensure your horse is kept fit and healthy all year round and aid in the management of respiratory problems such as cough, nasal discharge and general breathing problems.
We have two versions of RespirAid. For horses requiring immediate, fast and effective support we have RespirAid Express. For horses requiring long term respiratory support we have RespirAid DHA.
What’s in it?
Vitamin C (as ascorbyl monophosphate) A natural water-soluble anti-oxidant which under normal situations is made by the horse in the liver. When horses require respiratory support greater amounts of vitamin C are used, and the liver cannot keep up with the demand and horses will therefore all have increased demand for Vitamin C. When supplementing vitamin C to horses it is important to use a form which can be absorbed efficiently, for example ascorbyl monophosphate.
Natural Vitamin E is essential for every cell in the body. There are certain conditions which will increase the body’s requirements for Vitamin E, therefore demand is greater in horses requiring respiratory support. The horse cannot make Vitamin E, it must be eaten. Vitamin E is available as a natural or synthetic form. The natural form is preferential as more of it is absorbed.
MSM Methyl-Sulfonyl-Methane is a natural ingredient used in many supplements because it has two very important properties. Firstly, MSM is a source of Sulphur. Sulphur is essential for the maintenance of repair of many structural tissues within the body like skin, hoof and cartilage. Secondly, MSM itself has anti-inflammatory properties which makes it ideal for use in respiratory supplements.
DHA & EPA are specific types of Omega 3 fatty acids which are only found in substantial amounts in Omega 3 from marine sources. DHA and EPA have been found to be beneficial to many body systems in the horse including the lungs. It is important to note that Omega 3 from plant sources does not result increased DHA and EPA in body tissues in horses, therefore basic sources of Omega 3 such as linseed do not have a beneficial effect. (included in RespirAid DHA version).
Organic Selenium is a mineral which has a role as a circulating anti-oxidant within the body. Selenium is essential for the repair and defence of the body, specifically it is needed to make the enzyme Glutathione peroxidase. Selenium can be provided either in the inorganic form sodium selenite or in an organic form as yeast which have been fed on selenium. The organic form is much safer to feed to horses.
Copper, Zinc and Manganese Chelate Organic sources of copper, zinc and manganese such as chelated copper are kinder on the digestive system and have better bioavailability. We use a form of chelate which is linked to a protein hydrolysate. Protein hydrolysates consist of amino acids and short and long chains of amino acids (known as peptides) and are and are absorbed more rapidly than proteins.
