What is it?
The EnerGex range of feed and paste is a specialist disaccharide that increases blood glucose levels in a controlled, safe and sustainable way.
EnerGex is a naturally sourced smart carbohydrate, providing full carbohydrate energy in a more balanced way thanks to its low-glycaemic profile. By improving fat oxidation during physical activity, it prolongs energy supply.
EnerGex is rapidly absorbed, and increases blood glucose levels within 30 minutes and can maintain an increased level for 2 hours. EnerGex can also be given after training or competition to aid recovery.
Glucose is the most important energy source for horses during exercise. Low blood glucose levels are associated with fatigue and reduced performance and maintaining blood glucose levels is especially important during prolonged exercise, when competing and for horses that are lacking in energy.
Maintaining blood glucose concentration during exercise is vital as an energy source for the working muscles and also vitally for the brain. During prolonged exercise blood glucose levels can begin to fall as liver glycogen levels begin to deplete. Low blood glucose will seriously affect exercise performance. Many energy supplements containing simple sugars which can lead to undesirable fluctuations in blood sugar levels.
EnerGex helps to maintain blood glucose levels during exercise by providing a readily available source of carbohydrate. EnerGex also provides a readily available source of carbohydrate to aid recovery following hard work, racing or competition. EnerGex is a disaccharide that is not normally found in your horses' diet. Once digested it releases sugars that can be steadily converted to glucose to buffer the levels in the bloodstream. It is a low glycemic functional carbohydrate that releases sugar more slowly and so does not produce a big rise, which could be detrimental during exercise.
What’s in it?
EnerGex is a unique disaccharide, a naturally sourced smart carbohydrate, providing full carbohydrate energy in a more balanced way thanks to its low-glycaemic profile. By improving fat oxidation during physical activity, it prolongs energy supply.. A disaccharide is formed when two monosaccharides are joined by glycosidic linkage.
Disaccharides are one of the four chemical groupings of carbohydrates (monosaccharides, disaccharides, oligosaccharides, and polysaccharides).
It is 100 % vegan and non-GMO.
The molecular linkage of EnerGex is more stable compared to that of sucrose.
Research
EnerGex has undergone a number of clinical studies demonstrating that it safely increases plasma levels after 30 minutes to 2 hours and is suitable as a readily available source of carbohydrate for horses during or following exercise or in circumstances where food intake is reduced due to travel or illness.
FAQ’s:
Q: Why not just feed sugar as a source of energy?
A: Simple sugar is not a safe way to increase glucose concentrations in horses. It is shown to give a “peak” then followed by a “crash” meaning it is not desirable to use as an energy source for horses.
Q: Many companies use Iron to boost energy, why don’t you?
A: There is no clinical or scientific evidence that Iron has any benefit to energy production. In fact, excess Iron can be detrimental to horses health as it cannot be excreted from the body, and has an impact of absorption of other minerals.
Q: How long before I should start to see any benefit?
A: Our research studies indicate that when feeding the syringe the best results are after 30 minutes to 2 hours. When feeding the feed supplements it is best fed 2-4 hours or on a more regular basis to maintain energy levels.
Q: Do I need to give this with feed?
A: The syringe can be fed in isolation. The feed supplements should be mixed with feed, ideally twice a day, and follow the feeding instructions on the above tab.
Q: Is it safe to give to competition horses?
A: Yes, there are no prohibited substances in this product and all our products are manufactured and tested under our UFAS licence and NOPS scheme.
Q: How much should I give?
A: Please see our detailed feeding guide on the above tab.
Ingredients & Feeding Guide | Syringe
- Pony - approximately 250kg | 1/2 Syringe
- Horse - approximately 500kg | 1 Syringe
- Large Horse - over 750kg | 1 Syringe
EnerGex can be given before, during or after competition or training. If given before exercise EnerGex should not be given more than 15 minutes prior to the start, to maximise the effect. For intense exercise, 2 syringes may be given. Additional syringes may be given every 1-2 hours. Given immediately after exercise, EnerGex promotes recovery.
Do not exceed the recommended intake.
