What is it?
ImmunAid is a complete and comprehensive support for the Immune system.
A healthy and functional immune system is essential for good health. Supporting the immune system through times of increased demand will help to ensure your horse maintains optimum health.
ImmunAid provides comprehensive support in the form of antioxidants (Vitamins C, E & organic Selenium), essential amino acids, Omega 3 Fatty Acids DHA & EPA, Echinacea, Milk Thistle extract, Zinc, Beta-glucans and B-Complex vitamins.
Together, this high strength combination acts to neutralise free radicals, help the absorption of Iron, support the immune response and aid the removal of waste products.
What’s in it?
Echinacea Has long been known for its benefits to the immune system. In horses an Echinacea extract was found to increase lymphocyte counts (a type of white blood cell), improve the functionality of neutrophils (a type of white blood cell) and increase the size and concentration of red blood cells.
L-Cysteine is an amino acid used for its role in the replenishment of the anti-oxidant Glutathione. Glutathione is an important and essential anti-oxidant made and used by the body.
Vitamin C (as ascorbyl monophosphate) A natural water-soluble anti-oxidant which under normal situations is made by the horse in the liver. When the immune system is compromised excessive amounts of vitamin C are used and therefore an essential ingredient for immunity. When supplementing vitamin C to horses it is important to use a form which can be absorbed efficiently for example Ascorbyl monophosphate.
MOS & Beta-glucans A combination of Mannooligosaccharides (MOS) and Beta-glucans extracted from yeast cell walls. MOS and Beta-glucans are prebiotics, which means they create beneficial effects for resident microbes within the digestive tract. MOS is a large molecule which binds toxins produced by “bad” bacteria. Beta-glucans are able to interact with the immune system found in the digestive tract and stimulate it to improve its defence mechanisms.
L-Lysine Is an essential amino acid which is normally readily available to horses through their diet, as it is found in good quality hay. However, there can be situations where Lysine availability is low such as times of immune suppression.
Omega 3 fatty acids (from fish oil) DHA & EPA Specific types of Omega 3 fatty acids which are only found in substantial amounts in Omega 3 from marine sources. DHA and EPA have been found to be beneficial to many body systems in the horse and especially important when the immune system is challenged. It is important to note that Omega 3 from plant sources does not result increased DHA and EPA in body tissues in horses
Milk Thistle Extract A highly concentrated source of Silymarin, the active ingredient in Milk Thistle. Milk Thistle has a long association with liver health. In studies Milk Thistle has been shown to help repair damage caused by mycotoxins.
Vitamin E is a membrane bound fat-soluble anti-oxidant responsible for protecting cells from the damage which can be caused by free radicals. Vitamin E is essential for every cell in the body.
There are certain conditions which will increase the body’s requirements for Vitamin E, more so when supporting the immune system.
The horse cannot make Vitamin E, it must be eaten.
Vitamin E is available as a natural or synthetic form. The natural form is preferential as more of it is absorbed.
Vitamin & Mineral Proprietary Complex Zinc (chelate) Vitamin D3, Vitamin B3, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B5, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B9, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B12, Organic Selenium are all required is greater demand when the immune system is compromised.
